Star Service and Study Abroad works with the cheerful hearts foundation to find internship opportunities that align with students academic majors and personal interests while also supporting our overall humanitarian mission. Cheerful Heart's three main categories for internship service projects are anti-child labor trafficking, public health and education. The following questions have been designed to help us place admitted students with the right mentor and internship. Please answer thoughtfully and with as much detail as possible.
A. Of the three internship/service project categories, which area are you most interested in working on?
Anti-Child Labor Trafficking
B. Why are you interested in working on this project? If you selected "Other" please proceed to question D.
Though we we work hard to ensure all students are matched to a service project that relates to their interests, we cannot guarantee that all students will be assigned their first choice category. By continuing with this application you accept these terms.
C. What skills and background do you have that you feel will fit within your first choice placement?
D. There is a wide variety of professions and internship opportunities that fit into each of the three categories (ex. law can relate to fighting child trafficking and art can relate to education). However, if you feel that your internship interests do not fit into one of the three categories above, please tell us what type of work you may be interested in doing and why you feel qualified to pursue an alternate category.
E. What do you hope to gain from this work experience? Additionally, what do you feel you can contribute to your service project?
SECTION IV: PROFESSIONAL & INTERCULTURAL EXPERIENCE
What previous experience do you have working with a team of people toward a common goal? Please provide an example of specific skills and practices you used to collectively determine your goal. As well as how you worked to ensure the commitment of your group members and how you ultimately achieved your goal. *
We are committed to building internship groups capable of talking, listening, and working effectively across differences of race, social class, religion, sex, gender identity, sexuality, ability, age, and other salient identities and experiences. Describe a specific time when you discussed, witnessed or worked in an environment where different identities and experiences were in conflict with each other and you felt challenged and uncomfortable. How did you process and respond to the situation?
Our program requires participants to live and learn in a new environment that may be unfamiliar and even uncomfortable at times.
