Service Description
Specialty mid and advance workshops take place every 3rd Wednesday of the month. Sign up for one: February 15th June 21st Working with groups requires special attention to ethics. Whether working with a community group in an advocacy and awareness capacity, working in classrooms or with youth groups in a professional capacity, or working on a research project, ETHICS should be the frame and core of a Photovoice project. In this synchronous workshop, we will work collectively to unpack power and privilege in the context of Photovoice projects. We will examine ethical dilemmas that may present themselves in the different stages of a Photovoice project - working in teams, project design, taking photos, focus group discussions, research protocols, public presentations and exhibitions, and virtual & social media sharing. We will practice ethical design and workshop how to check and double-check that we are doing 'no harm' while doing Photovoice. We will use an intersectional lens and self-reflexivity to unpack these topics. You will leave the workshop with: 1. An in depth and broad spectrum of ethical problems and considerations to keep in mind. 2. Applicable approaches to maintaining deep ethical engagement. 3. Tools for designing ethical Photovoice projects. 4. Strategies for checking, double-checking, and ensuring that a Photovoice project 'does no harm' and has minimal potential unintended consequences.
