Curious minds and SSSA supporters can now engage with our critical discussions and cultural explorations in Ghana in a virtual format. During our summer program, virtual subscribers will have live meetings with SSSA staff, participants, and partners. You will see our behind-the-scenes activities and volunteering while visiting rich cultural and historical sites in Accra, Kasoa, Senya, and beyond. You will meet organizers in Kasoa, see the beautiful landscapes of the greater-Accra region, and experience virtual group excursions to botanical gardens, rainforests, historic landmarks, city markets, rural fishing villages, and more.

We are excited to have you join us for our interactive and fun virtual program. The program is designed by Brittni Howard M.A., PhD student. Brittni created this program using her extensive teaching experiences in the classroom and on virtual formats through NAU and UMass over the last 9 years.
Virtual subscribers will have access to their option of live or recorded meetings, interviews, and tours with SSSA. You will experience rich cultural and historical sites in Accra, Kasoa, Senya, and beyond through carefully crafted materials in our Patreon. You will receive tutorials and recipes to the meals we eat and to art and language activities we do. You will have a front seat view of the excursions to botanical gardens, rainforests, historic landmarks, city markets, rural fishing villages, and more.
WHO CAN JOIN?
The virtual program is open to people ages 16 and older. No GPA or degree requirements. No application. This program is ideal for anyone interested in Ghana, the volunteer industry, traveling international, or generally interested in the work that SSSA does.
WHAT TO EXPECT

8-WEEK ITINERARY
WEEK 1
Akwaaba!
You will have access to a number of energizing recordings from our Ghana-based partners and SSSA staff. We will set the ground rules for virtual engagement, as well as give you insights into the in-person group rules and safety information.
We include creatively designed virtual games and special activities to help participants experiences Ghana.
We will learn more about one another, the history of Ghana, and gain basic language, observation and navigation skills to ensure a smooth trip moving forward.
The week includes:

Experience More!
CONNECT

Each week we have Tea & Twi as a group - you can join live or review the recorded materials.

Experience Ghana through team-building exercises like scavenger hunts, photo contests, and other engaging activities that we provide in the virtual space.
LEARN

Participants will be introduced to short learning materials to help contextualize our daily activities. You will learn basic Twi with our students in Ghana.
We take a number of excursions and tours during the program - you can join live or review the recorded materials:

Tour the capital city of Accra and visit national, historical and cultural landmarks such as:

the burial site of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

W.E.B. Du Bois memorial and museum

the largest market in Accra

art galleries
-
the University of Ghana, Accra

beaches, botanical gardens, and hikes

museums and more!

"INTERN"
We meet with SSSA project partners during the program. You will have the opportunity to participate in a number of events, workshop trainings, and community projects that our partners have scheduled. This could include:

sharing community breast cancer awareness campaigns

researching or sharing reproductive health, sanitation, and hygiene teaching lesson plans
-
brainstorming community and youth events and activities
-
organizing slideshow presentations for SSSA nonprofit partners
-
preparing infographics and engaging materials related to the Millennium Suitability Goals, public health, special education, and S.T.E.M
-
presenting personal experiences to the group
-
assisting and record-keeping and data management
-
creating social media and website designs and campaigns
Final Week

Virtual participants will enjoy games, laughter, and activities to acknowledge and appreciate one another, reflect and (finally) give farewells.
