S.S.S.A. Partners with the
Michael Walton Foundation!
We are proud to announce that we will be traveling to Ghana in January in support of the Michael Walton Foundation's 2nd annual Speak Out to Reach Out Youth Empowerment Program! The 10 day program will feature professional athletes, local NGO’s and distinguished professionals to give students and teachers career guidance and demonstrate a variety of skills needed for success. The motivational and interactive program will connect local professionals and NGO’s with schools to provide workshops on entrepreneurship, science, technology, classroom management, inclusivity in education, self care, human rights, athletics and more!
The Michael Walton Foundation, founded by USA professional athlete, Michael Walton, has reached over 170,000 youth worldwide. Last year, in March of 2018, the Michael Walton Foundation visited ten venues in Accra, Kasoa, Senya and Nyano with over 20 schools in attendance. The theme was See, Believe, Achieve and the event gave over 3,000 students the opportunity to experience a powerful demonstration of ways to thrive through life's challenges and develop tools for success. With SSSA's support, the Michael Walton Foundation adopted 3 schools, developed a youth group with the Campaign for Learning Disabilities and established an E-Pen Pal program connecting youth in a Ghanaian fishing village to youth in Rhode Island. We are excited to build on our momentum and provide skills-building workshops to schools throughout Central Ghana. The goals is to bring local youth and professionals together, establish collaborations and develop long-term partnerships to further educate and empower young people from all walks of life. We have partnered with the Campaign for Learning Disabilities to provide our summer 2019 participants with a unique service opportunity. CLED, directed by Padmore Quansah, provides training, assessment and intervention services to students, caretakers and educators, to ensure that students with learning differences receive the tools they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond. CLED will be spearheading our Education Project, giving participants unique insight and skills in education, leadership and disability services. Learn more about CLED and our Education Project here.
"The program exceeded my expectations. It was everything I was hoping for and more. I was honestly just really excited to travel and have an internship - but this program exceeded everything I could have dreamed of."
