Critical Service Learning Signature 6-week Program
SSSA participants engage in volunteer internships with Ghana-based nonprofit organizations and local businesses. SSSA staff accompany participants in the field while teaching topics of community-based participatory research and grassroots organizing, history, and anthropology. Together, we explore the outdoors, historical and cultural points of interest, and local nightlife and cuisine.
Virtual June-July Ghana Learning Program
SSSA virtual participants engage in learning activities and materials in a flexible and fun online environment. For the months of June and July, you will have access to live videos and recorded videos that introduce you to our Ghana partners and SSSA college students living in Kasoa. Through the videos and activities, you will learn about topics of community-based participatory research and grassroots organizing, history, and Ghana culture. The learning modules will model what the in-Ghana participants do daily. When they do a team building exercise, scavenger hunt, tour, or group discussion, you will have a similar experience online.
Critical Adventure 10-day Custom Programs
Whether you are a youth group, affinity group, or a group of friends and colleagues wanting to explore Ghana, we will customize a trip for you! With every SSSA program, your group will have an SSSA staff member with you. And we always center the program around ethics, adventure, and meaningful connections. 10 to 14 day trips for groups with a minimum of 8 people and maximum 22 people.
Student and Instructor Workshops
SSSA offers workshops for students and instructors in the U.S. who wish to apply intersectionality, ethics, and anti-saviorism in their work, study abroad, and volunteering. SSSA workshops are rooted in social theory and praxis and provide participants with interactive activities to practice using their voice and new skills.
Consultation
SSSA
SSSA is happy to work with fellow instructors, professors, program directors, and organizations strategizing to center ethics, intersectionality, and critical practice in their work, programs, volunteering, and more. We develop comprehensive program orientations complete with handouts, activities, and instructor guides. We create lectures and trainings that unpack issues of colonization, power, privilege, and ethics. We have two consulting options; we provide you with the materials and you use them for your purposes, or we provide the materials and the presentation, whether in person or virtual.
